Car Accident Pueblo CO
A devastating multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 25 near Pueblo has left four people dead and at least 29 others injured, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The massive 30-car pileup occurred Tuesday afternoon on the northbound lanes of I-25, prompting an extended closure south of Pueblo as emergency crews worked to manage the scene.
Authorities confirmed that northbound Interstate 25 remained closed from Exit 91 to Exit 94 late Tuesday, with detours in place. Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. During an afternoon press conference, state patrol Maj. Brian Lyons said the northbound lanes are expected to remain shut down for several hours to allow first responders to clear wreckage and ensure the roadway is safe. Southbound lanes, which were also temporarily closed, reopened at approximately 2:35 p.m. Most of the 29 reported injuries were described as minor to moderate, though several individuals sustained serious injuries. As of mid-afternoon, officials said they were still working to determine the full extent of victims’ conditions.
Investigators believe sudden and severe weather played a major role in the crash. Lyons explained that powerful winds quickly swept through the area, creating a “dirt or brown out” that reduced visibility to nearly zero. “By the time we got the high wind advisories or warnings, the crash had already occurred,” he said. The Pueblo Fire Department responded to the scene along with multiple regional emergency agencies. Officials confirmed that despite the scale of the collision, no fires were sparked. The investigation into the exact sequence of events remains ongoing.
